Your Hormones: Symphony or cacophony?

March 31, 20234 min read

“Like the conductor of a symphony orchestra, your hormones are conducting your biochemistry and physiological health, every second of every day of your life.” - Clare Crouch, The Vibrant Health Coach

Your hormones are a big deal

When asked to think about hormones and how they affect the body, many people say things like controlling monthly cycles/reproductive system, pregnancy and menopause related issues. These are far and away the most common responses, closely followed the connection to blood sugar levels.

Of course, these are all spot on, and these aspects of your health are absolutely impacted by your hormones.

But this isn’t the full story, not by a long way.

More than just reproduction and blood sugar management

Most people have heard of the sex hormones oestrogen and testosterone, maybe progesterone too. Adrenalin and insulin are also commonly known, but did you know you actually have over 50 hormones in your body?

Hormones are chemical messengers that have been charged with the vital role of regulating the systems in your body that keep you alive and well.

They play a role in your digestive system, controlling your body temperature, regulating your sleep-wake cycle as well as triggering hunger signals.

In fact, almost every process in your body is directly or indirectly connected to your hormones.

Hormones are a BIG DEAL. They are literally everywhere in your body.

Whatever you may be experiencing in your body, you can bet there’s a hormone connection in there somewhere.

Your energy levels, ability to focus, motivation and moods are also linked to your hormones which means hormones can also impact on your ability to show up, be successful and live you best life.

A beautiful symphony or grating cacophony?

Like the conductor of a symphony orchestra, hormones are conducting your biochemistry and physiological health, every second of every day of your life.

When everything is going well you might not give your hormones a second thought as everything will be harmonious and in balance. Like a piece of music being played by talented musicians with perfectly tuned instruments and a world class conductor.

On the other hand, imagine those musicians have been given old, out of tune instruments, with missing strings, dents or holes in them and a bus conductor to lead them. The musicians have the same capabilities and the same sheet of music in front of them, but the outcome would be far from the beautiful symphony they know they can play together.

The same is true in your body.

Your body knows all of the notes it needs to play to create the beautiful music of vibrant health but if it doesn’t have the right ingredients to play like a maestro the end result will be far from perfect. Instead of sweet music (vibrant health) your body will be creating a grating cacophony (sickness and dis-ease).

Low energy, stress, overwhelm and anxiety can create a vicious circle that make getting through the day feel like an uphill struggle.

Add to that the myriad other health symptoms that can manifest as a result of impaired hormone function and it’s easy to see how hormone imbalance can have a significant impact on your enjoyment of life and your business success.

If you experience hormone issues, you may feel as though your body is going wrong, but the truth is this: your body is doing the best it can with what it has available right now.

This is good news, it means that YOU have the power to change the music.

Balance for harmony

Bringing balance back to your hormones creates harmony in your body and is the catalyst for health, wellness and enjoyment of life.

It’s kind of that simple.

Hormone balance is so often seen as a big, unattainable goal but it doesn’t have to be that way.

Sticking with the orchestra analogy for a moment, think about those musicians who are playing that beautiful symphony.

Not a single one of them could have played that way the very first day they picked up an instrument, it’s more likely that they made the most terrible noise.

It didn’t stop them trying though. Again, and again, they picked up their instrument and figured out how to play it. Making tiny leaps forward until they mastered a few notes and then a few more.

They took baby steps towards their goal and each of those steps moved them closer and closer.

As you read these words, are you wondering what this has got to do with your balancing your hormones?

Try to imagine your body as your instrument and yourself as the musician.
