Why Meal Plans Don't Work

March 16, 20232 min read

“There are dreamers and there are planners; the planners make their dreams come true.” - Edwin Louis Cole

I'm often asked if I offer personalised meal plans.

I usually want to reply ‘no, I don’t because meal plans don’t work’ but in reality that’s not technically true.

Whilst the short answer to the question is no, there’s a very good reason for this so it needs a little explaining.

I don’t want you to feel like a failure

Meal plans can work but it’s more often the case that the type of meal plan you try to use isn’t right for you which makes it oh so easy to feel like a failure when you give up after a couple of days and go back to your old ways.

If I was to give you a meal plan, even one that was tailored for you, there would almost certainly be elements of it that wouldn’t work for you and the last thing I want is for you to feel like a failure.

More than just a meal plan

I see meal planning as so much more than simply writing down what you plan to eat for the next 7, 14 or however many days.

There’s more to it than just figuring out what you’re going to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

In fact, the plan itself is only a small part of the process and there are lots of other factors to take into account too.

So, rather than provide a done for you meal plan instead I’d work with you to develop your own meal planning process.

A process that takes into account your routine and the way your family likes to eat, is flexible and can be adapted when life (inevitably) gets in the way.
