Alcohol is EVERYWHERE during the Christmas holidays and it can be challenging to avoid it with all of the traditions and expectations.
Swapping out some of the alcoholic drinks for alternatives that are kinder for your liver will really help you to feel less stressed and/or irritable. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine irritability and anger are linked to imbalances in the element connected to the liver! Is it any wonder then that tempers rise as alcohol consumption does.
Why not try making a warming mulled juice drink this year insead of mulled wine. Lots of the recipes you'll find online use cranberry and/or red grape juice but if you look closely these are often sold as 'juice drinks' with added sugar or sweetner. This is my alternative which uses only pure ingredients so it's nourishing and nurturing you as you drink it 💖
Ingredients (per person):
200mls fresh pomegrate juice
200mls fresh orange juice
1 cinnamon stick
2 star anise
4-5 whole cloves
2 orange slices cut in half
1 inch piece fresh ginger
Method
Put all of the ingredients except the orange slices and ginger into a saucepan and bring to the boil. Turndown the heat and simmer gently for around 20mins.
Meanwhile, grate the fresh ginger and squeeze the grated pulp to release the juice.
Add a little giniger juice into each mug or glass add a couple of orange slices into each mug too.
After the 20 minutes is up take the mulled juice off the heat and strain into your mug(s). Then tae the spices from the strainer and divide them between the mugs.
Give them each a stir to incorporate the ginger juice and enjoy 💖
Trust me your liver will love you for this and you'll be increasing your nutrient and antioxidant intake whilst feeling fabulously festive ✨
