No mayo slaw

The perfect accompaniment to homemade veggie burgers, falafel or baked onion bhajis.

This super healthy slaw can be whipped up in a matter of minutes if you have a food processor with a slicing and grating blade.


1 large carrot – grated or shredded

1 red onion – finely sliced

1/4 red cabbage – shredded/finely sliced

1/4 white cabbage – shredded/finely sliced

Dressing ingredients

Juice of 1 lemon

30mls / 2 tablespoons flaxseed oil

30mls / 2 tablespoons avocado oil

1/2 teaspoon mustard powder

1 small clove garlic finely grated or minced

Freshly ground black pepper

Garnish (optional)

1/2 teaspoon black onion seeds*


A food processor with a slicing blade can really speed up this recipe. Otherwise, a sharp knife, a steady hand and a little bit of patience will do the trick.


In a large bowl, mix together grated carrot, onion and the cabbages.

Add all of the dressing ingredients to a jar or lidded container. Secure the lid and then shake vigourously to combine.

Drizzle the dressing over the veggies and then mix together with a fork

Sprinkle with black onion seeds and you're ready to serve.

* black sesame seeds could be used instead
